The Corleone Option for SALT Republicans

Time to tell Rep. Mike Lawler and others who want to restore the state and local tax deduction to take the Speaker’s offer or get nothing

WSJ editorial. Excerpts:

"The limit of $10,000 in SALT was one of the great victories in the 2017 tax reform. It reduced the federal subsidy for Democratic tax and spending in state capitals like Albany, Trenton, Springfield and Sacramento. Cutting the deduction also saved hundreds of billions of dollars that allowed income-tax rates to be cut for every American in every state."

"The 2017 reform raised the standard deduction enough that only some 9% of filers itemize deductions. Those are mostly the affluent in states run by Democrats, and the subsidy for them comes at the expense of taxpayers everywhere else."
