Andrew Cuomo Tilts at Illusory Windmills: The governor has been pulling out all the stops for New York City to get half its electricity from offshore wind power by 2035

Letter to WSJ
"Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s bullying games via placing restrictions on natural gas for New Yorkers (“Cuomo’s Carbon Contradiction,” Review & Outlook, Oct. 21) is the opening act of a bigger and more brazen attack on New York’s power supply—and New Yorkers’ wallets.

The governor has been pulling out all the stops for New York City to get half its electricity from offshore wind power by 2035. At a July event with Al Gore, Gov. Cuomo said, “New York will lead the way in developing the largest source of offshore power in the nation.”

Even environmentally conscious Europe has largely shunned this power source because it is expensive, impractical and intermittent. On the hottest days, there is little offshore wind power.

Furthermore, the governor and his allies desperately want to obfuscate the cost. New Yorkers should demand clear, bottom-line transparency about the costs and that they be updated monthly.
The time for treating New Yorkers as guinea pigs on new-age energy policies must end.
