Sartre remained silent about Soviet labor camps

See ‘‘The Saint and the Atheist’ Review: The Wrong Side of Truth by Aaron Alexander Zubia. Mr. Zubia is a postdoctoral fellow at Furman University’s Tocqueville Program. Excerpt:

"Sartre’s devotion to the poor, meanwhile, launched him headlong into left-wing movements. An advocate of revolutionary violence, Sartre, who edited a Maoist newspaper, La Cause du Peuple, argued that “proletarian violence is simply the response to another type of violence, that of capitalist oppression.” In his eagerness to witness the demise of oppressive systems, Sartre remained silent about Soviet labor camps. And he idolized militant figures. He famously visited Fidel Castro in Cuba and later praised Che Guevara as “the most complete human being of our age.”"
