"The report acknowledges that premature deaths from the five leading causes often are a result of unfavorable lifestyle and environmental factors. These include alcohol and tobacco use, poor diet, obesity, sun exposure, pollution and chemical exposure. The CDC's report links unintentional injury to factors such as lack of seat belt and bike helmet use, unsafe consumer products, drug misuse or abuse and unsafe public and private environments.Maybe "socioeconomic disparities" are part of the story. But poor people could stop smoking and drinking. They would be better off financially and physically.
Many of these risk factors are associated with socioeconomic disparities, which play a role in the health of both public and private environments."
